Seller’s Notes: While I do not know the exact provenance of this wonderful wooden dolphin figurehead, the antique shop owner advised me of its approximate age and remarkable condition given the high seas where he adorned the bow of a ship from years gone by. His body is hand carved. His color is turquoise painted upon weathered wood ( the paint may or may not have been refreshed ). He rests on a base of solid wood painted black. ****Ships’ figureheads have a long history embodying religion, symbolism and superstition *****What I have learned about this wonderful piece has been supplied to me where it was purchased 30 years ago at “MAM” – considered the largest collection of fine antique shops in New York State. link is millbrookantiquemall.com.
