In the year 1959, a young man named Lee Berghoff took the initiative to lead a group of Junior Achievers from Dearborn, Michigan. This was a special group of ambitious young people who were determined to make a difference in their community and beyond. It was during this time that Lee founded the Brite Lite Company, with a mission to design and manufacture a modern-era table lamp that would set the standard for quality and style.

Their first production run was 150 lamps, each of which was hand-built using high-quality walnut stock. The walnut was hand-polished using a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine, and the lampshades were hand-sewn and lacquer-finished. The lamps were then sold by the Junior Achievers, mostly through door-to-door sales, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. This lamp design quickly became one of the most successful electrical Junior Achievement companies in the nation that year.
